On its website, Ed-Data describes itself as"...a partnership of the California Department of Education, EdSource, and the Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team/California School Information Services (FCMAT/CSIS) designed to offer educators, policy makers, the legislature, parents, and the public quick access to timely and comprehensive data about K-12 education in California."
But actually, they hold off on posting any prior year's financial data until long after the LCAP(budget) conversations and bargaining are complete. EdData's practice leaves stakeholders in the dark while they claim to provide "quick and easy access to timely" data. EdData's design is just one more example of how broken California's education system is.
Once one learns how to navigate EdData site and how to transfer the financial data to a meaningful format, it is useful, much easier to get the "big picture" of a district's spending patterns rather than having to go through each year of a district's Unaudited Actuals..
