Jarak Pendragon, long before he was a Pendragon, was the childhood friend of Bryce Broadblade. They grew up of knowing little of their parents, as they were taken by plague when the boys were only five years old. The two of them grew up together on the streets of a city that no longer exists since the end of the War of Chaos. The boys spent most of their lives evading capture, by both Guard and Guild, until eventually they left the city at the age of fifteen to seek their fortunes elsewhere.
The survival skills they learned on the streets served well to keep them alive in the dangers of what was then known as the Wildlands. Over time they managed to acquire other friends from various bandit groups they had run with, having learned that the best way to stay alive in the Wildlands was with numbers. Even with these other friends however, they never trusted anyone but each other.
After several bad experiences with various bandit groups, Jarak finally decided to form his own. At the age of eighteen, he killed and overthrew their current bandit leader, and with the help of Bryce, he took control of that band and Bryce became his second in command.
Eight years later they made the beneficial mistake of attempting to mug Bahmut. After giving them a sound thrashing, Bahmut gave them the option of joining him in return for payment. They accepted and followed Bahmut in exchange for a rather large sum of money, with plans to eventually double cross his party and run off with the loot. During a stay in one of Bahmut's secret stash lairs, Jarak, Bryce, and the rest of his band had a profound experience.
In the midst of revelry, Bahmut approached Jarak and explained that this was what he was fighting for. So that all people could enjoy such peace and happiness without the constant threat of danger. After some soul searching Jarak had a change of heart, and decided that he didn't want to live in fear anymore. He realized that it was indeed fear that had driven him to the life they had lead thus far. He did express doubt as to whether he could make such a change however, as up until that point he had lived a very questionable life. Bahmut simply smiled and said "No one is beyond redemption." In that moment, Jarak changed his path forever.
Bryce, being Jarak's best friend and brother in arms, listened to what Jarak had to say and, trusting his best friend, followed Jarak's lead. Over time, Bryce and Jarak became Paladins and dedicated their lives to fighting evil and defending the innocent. Eventually he fell in love with another member of the party, Kiralee, and though he never became aware of it, he conceived a child with her; their son, Elias.
During the early days of the War of Chaos, there was a battle in the capital city. During the battle, a twelve year old Terran and his sister got caught in the middle, and a damaged building was about to fall on Terran when Jarak Pendragon I charged in to save Terran's life, taking the full brunt of the collapse. Jarak died as a result of the injuries sustained.
His legacy lives on through his son, Elias, who has become a great and beloved king. Through Jarak's old journals, Elias was still able to know his father, and learn the wisdom he'd acquired.
