Elias Pendragon was born a king to the Crystal Singer, Kiralee Nailo. His father, Jarak Pendragon, died in service during the War of Chaos. Thus, Elias never got the chance to actually meet his father, though Jarak did leave behind a very lengthy journal containing all of his thoughts, ideas, and feelings.
While Kirilee did her best to act as Regent of Drakhaelm, and to teach Elias everything he would need to know to be the best king possible, Jarak's journal helped to shape Elias' mind into what it is today. Kirilee taught Elias languages and history from many different cultures and people, while Jarak's journal taught him to think outside the box and be as open-minded as possible without leaving oneself open to corruption.
Above all, both his parents taught him that a King is a servant of the people, first and foremost. He was taught that the comforts and privileges of royalty exist only to allow a noble's full attention to be placed on the needs of their kingdom. Elias was given every opportunity to become the very best of humanity. He excelled in most all things. Primarily this was because his father's journal had taught him that if one is to do something, one should do it to the best of their ability, or not at all. To try half-halfheartedly was to rob oneself of potential ability, and is an insult to those attempting to instruct you. Thus, Elias always dove head-first into anything and everything presented to him, and drove himself until he had mastered it, or dropped from trying.
Always trying to remain part of the kingdom, instead of just its ruler, Elias tried to keep himself available to the citizens of his kingdom. From the day he took the throne, Elias instituted a policy of open audiences to be held weekly, if possible. Much to the dismay of his Homeguard, he absolutely insisted on taking weekly walks through the city to keep a personal eye on things and to let his people know that he cares. Yearly he makes a tour of the kingdom for the same purposes. In this manner, Elias has been able to maintain better control of his kingdom and a good relationship with his people.
Not used to failing, Elias took an experience with the Drow very hard. After one particularly difficult battle and subsequent ruse when boneclaws were sent on a brutal attack of Stronghold, Elias let his anger get the better of him and accidentally tapped the Bloodline power, which then had minor destructive effects on the city. Shamed by his lack of control, Elias was convinced he had would be stripped of his power and his throne.
Rather than let him easily off the hook for a minor infraction, The One God decided it would be an ideal circumstance to send Elias on a special "character building" quest. Sending Elias to the legendary Sky Hold, the place the gods occupied during the creation of Raehelm, seemed an impossible task to Elias, who didn't believe it could be done. That was until he found evidence it actually existed. With renewed vigor Elias and party set off to find the legendary Sky Hold.
Successful in discovering the ancient hold, Elias rediscovered his confidence and retook his place on the throne of Drakhaelm, and the One God explained that Elias had never really lost the throne or his Bloodline power. The only thing preventing him from using his Bloodline power was himself.
Very much to the dismay of the nobles, Elias married Rouxi upon his return. Neither one of them had expected things to go this far when they first met, and it was a surprise for them all. Though still tainted by the influence of the shadow demon Kelmemnas, Rouxi was no longer under its influence. Elias used this opportunity to give Rouxi plenty of positive reinforcement.
It was a rocky beginning, but the people began to trust their new Queen, partially because they trusted Elias, but later because they saw what Rouxi was able to do for them. Under her scrutiny, the economy of the Kingdom flourished. Rouxi's keen eye for business also allowed her to restructure much of the kingdom's finances. Jobs increased, taxes eased, and trade boomed.
Then later, after Elias had been abducted by Kelmemnas, Rouxi, Drosil, Garn, and Karr went into the Abyss to retrieve him. It was here that Rouxi was finally able to face the Demon that had tormented her for so long. Through her love for Elias, she was able to face and subsequently defeat the Demon, forever freeing her from its terrible influence.
Word of these deeds, of course, spread throughout the kingdom, and further bolstered the peoples' support for their new Queen. Thus, when Valas, God of Insanity, sent a Grey Man to assassinate Elias and he was forced to take refuge in a jewel of entrapment, the people of Stronghold rallied behind their Queen when other kingdom doubted her intentions, and later when the Black Knights attacked Stronghold itself.
For her deeds, and a sacrifice made, Rouxi's soul was made clean. The last remnants of the taint left by the Demon were washed away and she was finally free. To ease her burden, Elias used a special ability to take some of her pain into himself, feeling all of the torments that she had endured throughout her life. Only Elias could ever truly understand the level of love and devotion she had for him.
With Rouxi at his side, Elias was now able to rule Drakhaelm in a manner unprecedented. Rouxi's past experiences and multitudes of contacts allowed her to assemble the world's most effective spy network to ever exist, rivaling that of the Crystal Singer. There was literally nothing that went on in the Kingdom that Rouxi didn't know about, and she imparted all of her information to Elias, which allowed him to maintain a level of control that most would have thought impossible.
Though many of the Nobles were extremely upset with Elias marrying Rouxi in the beginning, those loyal to him soon came to see the great benefits of having her on the throne. The nobles, many of them leftovers from the Old Kingdom that had previously turned against Chaos, believed that they would simply return to business as usual and live comfortably off the backs of the common folk. After all, the King couldn't micro-manage the entire kingdom, they thought. Several nobles lost their heads to Elias' sword for their treacheries. With Rouxi at his side, there was nothing that went past his notice. The nobles weren't able to get away with anything underhanded. This allowed Elias to cleanse his kingdom of traitors and replace them with loyal men.
Rouxi's many years in the criminal underground, having been taught by the best, made her an expert in court politics. She excelled and reveled in them. Between her spy network and negotiation skills, there were none that could match Queen Rouxi. With their combined intellect, wit, and skill, tempered by Elias' strong sense of virtue, the kingdom of Drakhaelm has flourished.
Now, Elias waits to pass his legacy to his son, who he hopes has learned as much on his journeys as Elias had on his …
