Abstract:
We show the significant effects of symmetry breaking on the magnetic quantization of layered graphene and silicene. The generalized tight-binding model is developed in order to include all the intrinsic properties of material and the influence of external fields. In the r-scheme, the calculations are based on the distinct sub-lattices of the system. The interplay of lattice symmetry breaking and external fields leads to many interesting Landau quantization phenomena, such as splitting, localization of wave functions, sub-lattice dominating, crossing and anti-crossing phenomena.
