This is the main site for the Python Boot Camp 2012, held on the UC Berkeley Campus in the Sutardja Dai Hall (CITRIS) Auditorium from January 13 (Friday) to January 15 (Sunday) 2012. The purpose of the boot camp is to get those familiar with other computing languages (like C, Java, FORTRAN, and Lisp) ramped on the basics of the Python language. This is not a computer science class; understanding of basic CS concepts (like looping, recursion, etc.) are presupposed. The Boot Camp itself is a mixture of formal lectures, in-class demos, coding breakout sessions for participants, and homework projects. The Camp will run from 8:30am to 5pm each day and is open to anyone within the UC Berkeley community.
The 2010 Python Boot Camp now finished! You might consider perusing the old site and read testimonials from the previous camp. You can also add our Google+ page to your circles.
If you are interested in a detailed introduction to various Pythonic topics to aid in research, consider the "CSE: Science Research Computing with Python" seminar course (Monday 2-5pm; 219 DWINELLE, Spring 2012, CC #06072). Graduate and undergraduate students wishing to participate in the course should register for that course by normal means. Those wishing to audit may contact us at ucbpythonclass@gmail.com.
You must register to participate in the Camp and doing so early means we can stay in touch with you with any new developments. If you are on the waiting list, we'll be in touch in the days preceding the camp. In the days leading up to the Boot Camp you'll need to install some software and make sure it all works. Go to the Preparation page to get started. If you have any questions, please email us at ucbpythonclass+bootcamp@gmail.com.
This Boot Camp (and the related Seminar course AY250) were made possible in part from a grant from the Computer Science and Engineering Program (CSE) at UC Berkeley and the National Science Foundation (NSF) (Award #0941742).
