Proto-Pythonistas,
This is the first of a few emails we expect to send in anticipation of the Python Bootcamp 2012, January 13 (Friday) to January 15 (Sunday). You are receiving this message because you signed up for the bootcamp. Consider this the official notice of acceptance of your registration. A few items at this time:
1) Please note that we've got a number of people on our waitlist, so if you don't think you can make the entire 3 days, we ask that you let us know ASAP (ucbpythonclass+bootcamp@gmail.com) so that we can offer your slot to someone else.
2) If you haven't already, please look at the preparations page (http://www.pythonbootcamp.info/preparation) where you'll see information on what you need to bring and what you need to do in advance of the bootcamp. The makers of our preferred python distribution, Enthought, have recently released a new version (7.2-1) with several software version bumps (importantly, ipython 0.12). You are encouraged to use this distribution for the bootcamp. We'll provide hands-on support in about a week's time for those that are having difficulty with the installation process (to be announced in a future email).
3) This is also the time to start working through the official python tutorial if you haven't already:
http://docs.python.org/tutorial/
4) We still have some spaces available for the semester-long seminar "Python Computing for Physical Science" which is an in-depth follow-on to the bootcamp. The seminar (AY250; CCN 06072) meets Mondays 2-5 PM in 219 DWINELLE. Consider enrolling through the normal channels.
That's it for now. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
Josh, on behalf of the Camp Counselors
