To re-establish the putting green we budgeted initially about £20,000. Once established the putting green should be self supporting. As a CIC any surplus will be ploughed back into additional local amenities. We successfully applied for funding as follows giving a total of £11,500 in 2013 and £27,000 in 2014 a grand total of £38,500.
2013
South Ayrshire Council: Standard Awards for New Organisations, £1,000
South Ayrshire Waste and Environment Trust: Landfill tax used for community benefit ...one of the conditions was that we had to have a nil rate lease £9,500
Western Recreational Trust: The Trust exists to support recreational activities in the West of Scotland, £1,000
2014
South Ayrshire Waste and Environment Trust: an additional grant awarded, £5,500
National Lottery: Awards for all Scotland, £10,000
South Ayrshire Ambition social enterprise funding: New scheme from April 2014, £11,500
The question has been raised ... How on earth could it cost £38,000 for a bit of fence, grass seed and a hut?
We started with nothing ... even the old putters and the retro hole flags (blue, green, red and yellow) for the four previous putting greens were lost.
Money was required to cover many items including the following:
Audit, Cash Register, Community Champion, Desk and Chairs for Kiosk, Duty Manager, Fence, Cut Grass, Ground Restoration, Hole Cups, Hole Cutter, Hole Flags, Hole in One Board, Insurance, Kiosk Build, Legal Expenses, Locks, Litter Pickers, Promotion, Putters, Score Cards and Pencils, Slabs.
The building works were the largest element at about 55% followed by ground restoration and grass cutting at about 18%. The putting furniture ... flags, hole cutter, and hole cups cost £1,000. But importantly not one penny was paid in Director's Remuneration or expenses. Much of the Prestwick Plus grant funding has been recycled to local businesses.
