Summary
Something rather special happened this summer. Putting returned to Prestwick Seafront on 20th July
2014 after a lapse of over ten years.
Community Interest Company, Putting Plus (2013) CIC, has re-introduced the game of putting for all ... young and old, fit and not so fit (we must be seen to be inclusive ... I have used this phrase repeatedly) down at the seaside once again. Having successfully gained planning permission, enough grant funding to ensure the project could be delivered, , and been awarded a lease the restoration work began in the Autumn of 2013, (benefitting sp from the relatively mild winter as work progressed ... if we are short of space this phrase is not really necessary)
.
The course opened later than we had hoped on the 20th July when it was felt that the green was at would be of an appropriate standard for putting. and Very quickly people responded to the new opportunity. Local press activity promoting the new Putting Green was placed, along with three 7,500 leaflet drops to highlight specific joint promotions and market awareness. A four week long Community Market Research study was undertaken to ascertain the feedback from the local community, given that any future profits will be delivered back to community needs and causes.
The response has been tremendous. Although we operated over a shorter season than originally envisaged this year due to surface restoration, the Putting Green delivered an enjoyable, friendly and healthy experience at Prestwick’s seashore for 1,045 locals, visitors, and tourists from all over the UK and the world. (I have used the bye line .. locals, visitors and tourists).
The support we have received from sponsors, grant funding associations, local and regional?? councils and the community has been highly encouraging and we expect 2015's longer season to be able to take advantage of events such as Prestwick Prom Day.
(I prefer my version .... councils have been hot and cold ... as have the community ... hence my catch all phrase)
We have been encourage by the support which we have received. We are looking forward to 2015 which will be a longer season. We plan to take advantage of events such as The Prestwick Prom Day, and make sure that all sections of the local community benefit.
This Report focuses on our successful and busy first season. For completeness we include information on Putting Plus, our funding, and the restoration carried out.
Thanks you all for your support: come and enjoy putting again ... and again.
