PRosPect Hill Ski Team
The Prospect Hill Ski Team is an introductory ski racing program That Is a MEmber of the Eastern MassAChusetts Buddy Werner Ski League.
PHST has been introducing and teaching the fundamentals of ski racing to the youth of Greater Boston and Eastern Mass for more than 50 years.
Our experienced and enthusiastic coaching staff welcomes skiers of all levels between the ages of 4-18. The team practices and hosts its home races at the Blue Hills Ski Area in Canton, Mass.
The Prospect Hill Ski Team is a commitment from mid-December to the first week of March. It is expected that racers attend weekly Friday night practices and Sunday races as a member of the Prospect Hill Ski Team.
Ski racing is as much of a team as it is an individual sport. Our goals are to improve skiing and racing skills. Competition is encouraged, however we focus on Fun, Sportsmanship, and Team Spirit. Although we no longer have a first-time skier program, we will introduce racing to young skiers who have never raced before. (More below on ski ability.)
Registration for the 2023/2024 will begin in late October and early November.
First practice will be Friday, 1/5/2024
The PHST Board of Directors is seeking more parents to help us plan another great year, please reach out to Dennis with any interest: firstname.lastname@example.org
We are also putting out a call for sponsors for the upcoming season. Please email Sean Couture if you are interested in sponsoring the team for the 2023/2024 season.
About Youth Ski Racing IN Massachusetts
The goal of PHST is to promote a fun and safe environment for youth who love skiing and who want to learn to race and compete with other young skiers. We welcome all levels of skiers.
However, PHST is not a learn-to-ski, first time skier program. Skiers joining our team must be able to ski the Patriots Way trail independently and be willing to ski the intermediate Big Blue trail as well.
The Eastern Massachusetts Buddy Werner League (our governing body) REQUIRES the use of helmets at all League events. Racers must wear a racing helmet with hard ear flaps. This is a change implemented in 2018/2019, when, previously, U8 were not required to wear hard-sided helmets. For more on helmets, including the rules for U14+ racers taking place in USSA sanctioned events, as well as other equipment suggestions, check out our Equipment Guidelines.
PHST is a parent-supported team. A key to the enjoyment of race days is parent participation. Team parents are required to help at Home Races, and some may be needed to help run the EMBWL Fun Race and the Championship Race.
Lift tickets are not included in the team registration fee. Tickets need to be purchased separately. Discounted season passes and discounted practice tickets are given at a special rate by Blue Hills for team members. If you are a team member, you can purchase a season pass at the December Parent Meet and Greet or Team Preseason Event. Tickets for away races are purchased on race day at the host mountain.
