Sisyphus is best known for being punished by the Gods with the endless task of pushing a rock that could never quite find a resting place at the top of the hill. The rest of the story is far more interesting. At one point, Sisyphus tricks Thanatos (=death) and entraps him in his own chains, throwing all godly activities into disarray. Elsewhere, I've used the metaphor of Sisyphus to discuss the problem of malaria control and elimination.
