Welcome! Join us to start learning and sharing your collection.
This Club started on YahooClubs! in 1999. It later migrated to YahooGroups when Yahoo! bought out eGroups a few years later, and where it was home to Diana doll collecting social networkers for more than 20 years. When the unimaginable news hit that Yahoo was closing our web-based features, it actually presented a host of opportunities and choices for members.
Prior to the final closure of YahooGroups' services in 2020, we piloted 3 platform replacements as membership options. We continued running those minimally to preserve existing connections, however some changes were made. We now only promote the Facebook platform.
As before, we have a defined field of membership that will continue to serve collectors with features that connect, inform and support members who are active collectors.
Membership is still by approval.
Our original Club is still strong. Changes in line with advances in social media have brought a lot of things up to date. We've made sharing and doing research easier while at the same time taking steps to prevent bad actors from disrupting or scamming.
To join:
Member suggestions have been taken on board. For those wishing to socialise, "off-topic" discussion is okay under these conditions:
Where a new topic is started, please mark the thread with "Off-Topic Discussion" (or "OT: ") where possible. A lot of leeway can be given as long as Diana (or other royalty) and dolls are in the thread. Certain topics were always okay, but to clear doubt:
Hypothetical dolls are okay; paperdolls are okay; dolls converted to a royal personage are okay.
Here are concerns of where "OT:" messages have generated problems in the past:
The group is about Diana and/or Royalty dolls. There are plenty groups for other dolls. Don't be surprised or disappointed if posts of your (example) Vanna outfits on Diana or Diana outfits on Jackie fail to generate likes or comments. To be quite blunt, people may be too polite or kind to tell you they aren't interested; they just won't engage.
Starting topics
Conversations must not contain other members' private/*personally* identifiable information. (e.g: Details of your adult daughter's divorce do not belong in your doll club.) Sorry, this is law in the UK and just plain manners in other nations.) "Doxxing" on the public discussion board is NOT OK. If you personally choose to share your own info, that's okay but caution is advised for your safety. (Personally identifiable info is physical address or phone number.) General location may be relevant. The goal is to avoid anyone from having a surprise visitor show up at their home without warning. This is a safety thing. The only exception will be with approval by group owner on verified scammer warnings.
Asking for other members' **financial** support in a crisis. Nope. Emotional support? Yes. Not a problem. Support for your Diana doll related business? Maybe as long as the guidelines are maintained. The problem is asking dozens of strangers for money. (e.g.: "I was burgled and the burglars trashed all my dolls; can you please donate to help me replace them?") [No kidding, this actually happened when we were Yahoo. The responsible party later admitted it was a hoax. It was very sad and it's over.]
Please keep it clean, legal and tasteful. (TMI about family members' health conditions or personal lives is not needed, nor is a diaper report.) [Again. Yes. Happened. Please! Never again.]
Posting your own real name is okay, as is your own email address--if you so choose, however you must not post others' details without their permission. Your information needs to be true and you cannot complain about what you yourself posted at a later date. FB allows you to edit and/or remove posts. If it's a problem, fix it. Keep in mind: if you post it, people will judge. Fact of life.
Physical addresses and phone numbers should be exchanged privately. This is for your safety. Cyberstalking is real and sometimes crosses into Real Life.
The exchange of such info is purely between individuals, and not the Club, however the Club is happy to facilitate communication between members if requested and agreed by both parties.
You must not post anyone else's personal contact info (phone, physical address, email). (Web sites are okay, it's presumed these can be web crawled and found by search engines. This is also presuming that the Club platform doesn't already show email addresses.)
Members strictly must refrain from posting political, anti-vax/conspiracy theory opinions or anti-Royalist sympathies. (Yes. Even Camilla. Be a grown-up, even the Queen got over it. If that is a problem for you, find another group for expression of those feelings, but this topic has been a potential for spite and ugliness. Be a swan and ignore her.)
If a bad seller warning post is indicated, be cautious in how information is communicated, and ensure any statements can be backed with evidence (contact the Club admin privately. The Club has protected each other over the years, but accusations/allegations must be verifiable.) We do not tolerate bad actors and the Group will be protected when called for.
Discussions must be in line with the Terms of Service and Conditions of whichever site is hosting. See each Branch page for links to the specific Ts & Cs.
