The research activity of the Research Unit at the University of Bologna in this project focuses on the following points:
Production of patinated surfaces (to be used as substrates for the application of protective treatments selected by UniFE) by accelerated artificial ageing in outdoor conditions, with morphological, compositional, structural and stratigraphic characterization.
Assessment of the protectiveness of surface treatments (selected by UniFE) by accelerated artificial ageing in outdoor conditions, with parallel characterization of both exposed surfaces and ageing solutions
Characterization of surfaces after removal (by CNR-IFAC) of protective treatments with different methods (laser cleaning, use of solvents or heating), aiming at the assessment of reversibility/re-applicability of surface treatments.
As the activities involve both metallurgy/corrosion and environmental chemistry aspects, the UniBO RU consists of researchers from both the Department of Industrial Engineering, the Department of Civil, Chemical,Environmental and Materials Engineering and the Department of Industrial Chemistry “Toso Montanari”.
