The activity of the IFAC-CNR Research Unit focuses on the following points:

Set-up of an open showcase with microclimate control.

Starting from a theoretical study of heat, air and moisture transport carried out with the help of modeling and simulation software, the experimental set up of the open showcase and of the microclimate control system has been defined.

Realization of two open showcase prototypes with microclimate control: one having small size (about 100×100×50 cm3 [H×W×D]) and another one of large size (about 250×205×90 cm3 [H×W×D]). The cases have the shape of a parallelepiped having no solid barrier between the front side object and the observer.

Characterization and optimization of the setups in terms of environmental conditions (relative humidity and temperature) obtained inside the showcases, compared with the external conditions (degree of insulation).

Evaluation of the reversibility / re-applicability of the surface coatings with the best protective efficacy. In particular, laser treatment for coating removal, applied by UniFe, is carried out at IFAC-CNR. The surface characterization is carried out at UniFe and UniBo before and after laser irradiation.
