Habemus Papam! & Literature
This course will investigate the relations between the papacy and Italian culture from the Middle Ages to the present time. Representations of the Pope and the Vatican in Italian literature and film, and the effects of the Popes’ patronage and censorship will be discussed, ranging from the Divine Comedy to The Da Vinci Code. Italian 335 is a core course for majors and minors in Italian Studies. Readings and class discussions will be conducted in Italian. Successful completion of Italian 204 or equivalent is required.
