After a long hiatas roping at the club was revived in 2022. The PRDC roping program began with humble roots — an old roping sled pulled behind a borrowed four-wheeler (whose backfires occasionally added a little extra excitement!) along with a few groundwork dummies.
By 2023, Brandon Bacon and Tony Judge stepped in as Roping Co-Chairs with a much bigger vision: bringing live steer roping and breakaway calves to PRDC. Before that could happen, the club needed major arena improvements to meet safe roping standards. Tony and his company, Olympia Footing, completely revamped the footing in the lower arena, while Brandon led the construction of the roping boxes, run-up, and chute. Jim Riebli and Kyle Henderson were instrumental in helping build the boxes, making the project a true team effort.
Once live steer roping and breakaway arrived at PRDC, word spread quickly. A strong community of ropers began gathering every Monday and Friday night for practices. Through nonstop fundraising efforts — flipping burgers, selling dinners, and even kids running lemonade stands — the committee raised enough money to purchase key roping equipment, including a Heel-O-Matic sled and a new club quad.
As the program grew, so did interest in joining PRDC. Tony and Brandon’s vision expanded beyond practices and into producing sanctioned jackpots through the American Cowboy Team Roping Association (ACTRA). Continued fundraising allowed the club to purchase professional jackpot equipment including timers, electric eyes, and a computer system running Jackpot Roping software.
With the help of PRDC member Christine Gutsch, the Roping Committee successfully produced seven ACTRA Team Roping Jackpots during its first season in 2025. Looking ahead, PRDC is planning an exciting 2026 season featuring sixteen ACTRA team ropings and breakaway jackpots — continuing the rapid growth of one of the club’s most exciting programs.
