President's Message

Post date: May 14, 2013 8:45:52 PM

Where has the school year gone? The only good thing about a cold April is that May seems that much closer to the end of the school year.

As acting President it has been a busy but enjoyable year. The highlight for me would have to be the school visits! It is always rewarding to be able to network and just be visible to the members.

This school year has brought about an increased workload for our Portage members as they struggled to adapt to the new report cards. Yellowquill staff was instrumental in guiding the elementary staffs. High School staff pulled together in Departments and “got ‘er done”. Next year when ALL schools across the province are mandated to implement the new report card the government will need to listen and respond. They will hear of the excessive amount of hours that teachers are putting into these reports. It is my hope that the Government will eventually allow an extra Admin day for report card writing. Reporting is NOT a PD activity.

As the local President I have had a busy year dealing with member issues. Whether it be leave requests, maternity benefits, WSH, reimbursements, freedom from violence, and/or retirement questions it is important that members know that their PTA is busy working on their behalf.

I would like to thank my Executive and School Council reps. The work and decisions they make on your behalf are valuable.

I want to thank Bob Kriski, Vice President (and hopefully Provincial Executive member), for his ‘listening ear’, feedback, and continuous support.

Now that you have found this website please keep ‘checking in’ for news and upcoming events!
