Cell-Free Protein Synthesis

Cell-free protein synthesis is a powerful tool used to make proteins without any cells. The system utilises the biological machinery of cells, but without maintaining cell growth. Making proteins this way is called in vitro protein synthesis. This gives scientists the opportunity to tightly control what is in any system, and the speed of production means systems can be evalulated in hours as opposed to days, weeks or months.
