The objective of the PhD is to better understand the role of chromosomal inversions in species adaptation. We are working on pearl millet, a diploid cereal contributing to food security in African countries and in India. We used a population genomic approach to detect inversions. A first study focused on a population of 126 cultivated Senegalese samples and the use of exome sequencing data. A second study is being carried out with whole genome resequencing data (~30X) generated for wild and cultivated plants distributed over several African countries. We also used optical mapping data and Nanopore lond reads obtained for several individuals in order 1. to improve the assembly of the reference genome used during the PhD, and 2. to validate inversions and identify breakpoints with a comparative genomic approach.
