Sometimes a TV show is more memorable for its theme tune than anything else. On other occasions, a show is both good and has good music. This episode of TV ramblings is dedicated to the melodies that have stayed in my memory, often for long after memories of the show's existence have faded from public awareness.
The composer, Leonard Rosenman, had previously composed for the far longer-lived wartime series "Combat!" and also has a long list of credits in film (Rebel Without a Cause, Fantastic Voyage, and Star Trek IV:The Voyage Home, but in my view he should also be remembered for his incredible music to "Garrison's Gorillas." Not only was the theme tune excellent, Rosenman managed to 'mine' and play about with different aspects and extended versions of the theme as background music throughout each episode. Perfectly designed and placed, these enhanced the action and provided emotional support for what was happening on screen without ever distracting. Just brilliant.
