The Pitkä family from Kuusamo and the Kuhmitsa family from Kuolajärvi (Salla) are not related to each other.
Kallunkis lived at closely situated Kallunki lakes both in Kuusamo and in Salla. In earlier researches these families were connected together based on speculation from information on insufficient church books. However, tax books and court books undisputedly prove these interpretations to be false.
Furthermore, DNA researches show members of the Pitkä family belong in haplo group N, while members of the Kuhmitsa family belong in haplo group I. The current status is that the closest common ancestor is found only 45000 years ago.
