Shawl Frame S.S. No 81
A 4 at once 34 Gauge machine.
The first number stamped onto the machine is S.S. No. 81. The manufacturer is not known. Could it be Sturt & Sharp before it became Ward, Sturt & Sharp of Belper and London?
Number 9T is stamped onto the right presser bows. This is the number of J Buck & Sons Ltd of Hucknall.
Machine K S 1 is Kirby Shawls 1, the first machine I acquired for my frameshop in Kirby Muxloe.
The machine gauge is stamped on the thumb plate on the transfer bar
The sinker mould has the machine number and the gauge in Roman numerals. Video of framework knitting machine (about 1 min).

The jack mould is stamped SS 81.
The needle lead mould is also stamped SS 81
