Grandchildren will benefit if we start fixing now

People say beautiful things but those are not going to do a thing to get our society back on its feet. It is way too naive to think there can be quick fixes for the problems we are witnessing. What has been said, seen and destroyed over the last six years (not just the last five months) has unveiled the ugly head of this animal called Hong Kong! Greed, flip, hoard!

Fixing this is a 100-year project, folks.

I offer this as a short-term fix (30 years): First, affordable housing for the young and restless; second: good jobs and decent salaries, especially for those without a university degree; third, promotion of vocational rather than mainstream education.

And for a long-term fix (70 years): first, national education. We are not “honkies”, we are Chinese. China is our country whether you like the Communist Party or not.

And second, teach young children not to hoard, not to speculate on property, the stock market, commodities and what have you. More education extolling good virtues, to expound on the altruistic values of sharing, loving and caring.

None of us may see the result of this project but our grandchildren will, if it is done right.
