Install XMing X-Windows Server
- This install is in Windows
- I favor xterm sessions and session behavior over other session types.
- I like VNC but I prefer to use an X-Windows server because I have to connect to many other
AIX, UNIX, Linux servers, most of which do not have an installed VNC server.
- I have tried a couple of X-Servers and to date X-Ming is my favorite.
- Instructions for installing the Xming X-Windows server:
- Via a web browser go to http://www.straightrunning.com/XmingNotes to install Xming.
- Under the heading: "Public Domain Releases", in the second table, install:
- Xming - for the base X-Windows server
- Xming-fonts - if you want other than the default font set
- If you need it, the command line for the Xming Windows shortcut is:
"C:\Program Files\Xming\Xming.exe" :0 -clipboard -multiwindow
- Note: The Normal PuTTY - SSH link is OK.
- You do NOT need the Xming-portable-PuTTY link
- I start Xming manually from the Windows desktop before I start Cygwin or Debian on my local Windows PC.
