5/4 model

Pattern for the 5/4 hyperbolic model

Row 1:  Ch 20, turn.

Row 2: ch1 (this chain is setting the thickness of the row and counts as an sc.), sc in the next 2sts, V-st in the next st; (*sc in the next 3sts, V-st in the next st;) 4 times, turn – 20 +5 = 25

Row3: ch1, sc in the next 2sts, V-st in the next st; (*sc in the next 3sts, V-st in the next st;) 5 times, sc in the next st, turn – 25 + 6 =31

Row 4: ch1, sc in the next 2sts, V-st in the next st; (*sc in the next 3sts, V-st in the next st;) 6 times, sc in the next 3sts, turn – 31 + 7 = 38

Row 5. ch1, sc in the next 2sts, V-st in the next st; (*sc in the next 3sts, V-st in the next st;) 8 times, sc in the next 2 sts turn – 38 + 9 = 47

Row 6: ch1, sc in the next 2sts, V-st in the next st; (*sc in the next 3sts, V-st in the next st;) 10 times, sc in the next st turn – 47 + 11 = 58

Row 7: ch1, sc in the next 2sts, V-st in the next st; (*sc in the next 3sts, V-st in the next st;) 13 times, sc in the next 2 sts turn – 58 +14 = 72

Row 8: ch1, sc in the next 2sts, V-st in the next st; (*sc in the next 3sts, V-st in the next st;) 17 times, turn –72 + 18 = 90

Row 9: ch1, sc in the next 2sts, V-st in the next st; (*sc in the next 3sts, V-st in the next st;) 21 times, sc in the next 2 sts turn – 90 + 22 = 112

Row 10: ch1, sc in the next 2sts, V-st in the next st; (*sc in the next 3sts, V-st in the next st;) 27 times, turn – 112 + 28 = 140

Continue to crochet each successive row using this increasing rate, 1 V-st for every 3 scs.  It helps if we calculate the number of V-sts of each row before beginning to crochet a row, and counting the crocheted V-sts after crocheting a row, to avoid mistakes.  The number of V-sts is quotient of dividing 4 from the number of stitches of the previous row.  The remainder is the number of stitches to crochet in the end of each row. After crocheting the final row, tie the yarn at the end of the row to keep the knots from unraveling.

 Crochet Terms and Abbreviations
