For those proclaiming “I like to drive, so I don’t want FSD,” I’d like to share my perspective based on 88,000 miles over three years in my Model 3 with (then) Enhanced Auto Pilot.
I, too, like to drive, but for repetitive, uninteresting freeway driving on good roads, it can relieve you of the drudgery. You’re still in charge, you’re still responsible, but you’re supervising, and you don’t have to make the first decision.
And to get used to it, you can engage AP, but still keep your hands on the wheel and foot on the pedal ready to do what you want, and can take over by turning the wheel or tapping the brake… then two taps on the stalk and you’re back in AP.
I also find it useful on boulevards and stop and go traffic, but you have to find your own comfort level.
It may be the FSD subscription Model just introduced will give some owners a chance to try it out. If you do, don’t make up your mind at the beginning…take some time to get comfortable…as you learn to trust it… “Trust but Verify.“ And remember, ultimately YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE. Stay safe.
