Fall Workshop
We are excited to welcome Dr. Dani Willhite for a presentation focused on effective collaboration among specialized professionals. Supporting students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing often requires a team approach, bringing together teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing, general and special education teachers, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, interpreters, related service providers, and families.
Dr. Willhite will share practical strategies for strengthening communication, building trust, and working together toward shared goals. Participants will gain useful ideas for creating stronger collaborative partnerships that support the unique needs of students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing and promote positive student outcomes.

A Quick Overview of THE PENNSYLVANIA EXPANDED CORE COMPETENCIES for Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
This content is what differentiates instruction by a TOD from instructional support in the general curriculum (i.e. in LS).
This content is what differentiates instruction by a TOD from instructional support in the general curriculum (i.e. in LS).
This curriculum & its resource documents were developed in the state of Iowa (revised in 2013). Its purpose is to define skills & knowledge that students with hearing loss often miss if only exposed to the general ed curriculum. Many of these skills are acquired by hearing students through incidental learning, whereas our students often need direct instruction in these same areas, by a ToD. The PA-ECC-DHH is a great starting point to show the IEP team specifically how DHH support has a different focus than learning support and other related services. Something to celebrate indeed! PESDHH has developed an in-depth study of the PA-ECC-DHH that can be presented to groups of teachers, either face-to face or virtually. If you are interested, please contact:

Pennsylvania Educators of Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (PESDHH) is a grass roots organization of teachers and other educational professionals serving students across PA, who are deaf or hard of hearing. Through continuing education of service providers and decision makers along with advocacy and collaboration, our mission is to ensure that all students with hearing loss have appropriate, quality services delivered by highly qualified personnel, regardless of their geographic location.
It is also our mission that these highly qualified providers have the necessary supports to continually improve services to Deaf and hard of hearing students so the students can thrive and reach their maximum potential as individuals.
