My beliefs on how to effectively coach others.
One should never give more feedback than positives.
Always acknowledge strengths first.
Never give more than 1-2 things to work on at a time. Use smart goals.
Provide the support, the follow through, and cheerleading necessary.
Provide multiple tools for change and let the team or teacher decide which they prefer.
Always follow up conversations with an email on what was discussed, things team or teacher are going to work on, support needed, and the date for completion or next meeting.
Establish working norms. Such as: assuming best intentions, a willingness to try new things, honest and open communication, and to not take things personal by any party.
Education Direction of Salt Lake City asked me what 3 things school needed to do to improve. See the PowerPoint below or click here.
