Asperger Experts

"Take it from us, We've lived it."

Asperger Experts was created in 2012 by Danny Raede & Hayden Mears, both diagnosed with Asperger's.

Note: they use the term "Aspergers," which is no longer used by medical professionals, but which does help those of us dealing with it to have some clarity.

Aspergers Experts offers "DVDs, audio courses, webinars, coaching sessions & videos to help you understand what goes on in a ASD person's mind, how to communicate to people with ASD, what to do to greatly reduce your daily frustrations, and most importantly, how to get people with ASD to fully experience all that life offers."

Their primary ideas are that people with Aspergers will be calmer and have fewer behavioral issues when you don't try to "fix" them, but learn to help them feel safe so that they aren't stuck in a defensive mode.

Does Asperger Experts have some useful information? Yes, some. Are their DVD or series really valuable? Not clear. For the time being, I will just watch the videos they have on You Tube. (Scroll down for list and links.)

Free Webinar

"Join us for a free webinar on "Deep Into Defense Mode", where you'll learn our 3 step process for getting someone with Asperger's out of Defense Mode... so they can finally grow, thrive, and become independent."

You can sign up for their free webinar... the webinar is billed as interactive (only a certain number of people can sign up, supposedly, it's supposedly live and you are supposed to be able to ask questions. The webinar I attended was a recorded sales pitch, and there was absolutely no reaction when I submitted a question. When you sign up, you will be inundated with emails (3 or 4 a day) to remind you. It's all very sales pitchy. In the webinar, the pair talk a lot about themselves. They also put quite a guilt trip on parents to do EXACTLY what they recommend to get positive results, which is basically giving the child more attention and positive feedback. (Clearly, the child's meltdowns are ALL YOUR FAULT, if you could just be more patient and loving!) They follow this by saying they expect most parents will NOT do exactly what they recommend. If you have the patience to sit through an hour, you might get a few ideas.

Deep Into Defense Mode

This is the 4-week series they are "selling." They tell you it's an $800 value, but they've reduced the price, finally, down to $147. You get weekly downloadable tutorials and then opportunities to participate in online group support. Read more details about Deep Into Defense Mode here.

Review of Deep Into Defense Mode

I recently bought the Deep Into Defense Mode course from the Asperger Experts. I think it was around $150. We're tight on cash but I thought I'd take a chance because there's a money back guarantee, unlike with therapy. In comparison, our kid's behavioral (ABA) therapist charged $200 an hour, does not take insurance, and we'd just recently quit her after three completely useless sessions.

I liked the course, have been able to successfully apply the techniques, and did not ask for a refund. I initially got it to help us support our 7-year old aspie son who has huge meltdowns over any requests to do anything whether it is getting dressed so he makes the school bus or doing homework. But was pleasantly surprised with the insight it gave me into my own behaviors and anxieties related to my Aspergers, my own "defense mode." I wasn't expecting that either, it was a bonus.

Who cares of they are making a profit? People should be compensated for their work. If you think it's too pricey, don't buy it. For parents who have spent thousands on therapies with no results, this will seem pretty inexpensive. And if it doesn't work for them, well there's the refund.

The Asperger's & Autism Parent Support Network

Raede and Mears also created "a place to get help, support, inspiration, and understanding." You can join for a monthly fee (currently $14.99/mo) and cancel at any time. You get a free DVD "Behind The Behavior," which they tell you is only available when you join The Asperger's/Autism Parent Support Network. This DVD "teaches you how to find the root cause of ANY behavior so that you can stop guessing, struggling and finally get results."

If anyone gets this DVD, we would love to post a review here.
