FROM THE CHAIR-----------------
Welcome to the convention follow-up issue. I hope you are all enjoying your summer. We had a very successful session at the national convention. Jeanne Bamberger's talk was very well received and Robert
Cutietta provided a thought-provoking response. We had the second highest attendance of any SRIG session! Dr. Bamberger gave a talk earlier that day in which she discussed some of the work she's been doing with her college-age music fundamentals students on constructing their own musical ideas. She gave us a glimpse of a new program entitled "Impromptu" which may soon be available commercially. It allows students to manipulate music "blocks" to reconstruct familiar tunes or create their own. In the business meeting that followed our session we voted on official bylaws which are found on pages two and three of this issue. As you know, we also nominated candidates for chair-elect. The E-mail/mail-ballot response was very high, and I thank you for your participation. Our new chair-elect is Dr. Kimberly Walls of the University of Texas-San Antonio. Her address is:
