UPDATE (01/02/2022)
Ruth Lehman, wife of NAfME Past President (1984-86) Paul R. Lehman, has assembled, with his help, a documentary account of his professional activities and their personal adventures called “Celebrating the Life and Career of Paul R. Lehman: The First Ninety Years.” Because Paul was involved in various leadership roles in MENC/NAfME almost continuously since he was appointed to the MENC Music Education Research Council in 1964, this story is not only a personal history but it tells a great deal about the history of music education during that period and about MENC/NAfME itself. Paul's reminiscences often involve the programs and leaders of NAfME, as well as such matters as the 1964 conference on instructional technology in music, the MENC National Commission on Instruction in 1971-74, the period of challenge following the publication of A Nation at Risk in 1983, his presidency of MENC in 1984-86, the standards movement of the 1990s, and how the national music standards of 1994 came into being. Complimentary copies are available from Paul at prlehman@umich.edu while supplies last.
We look forward to seeing you at the Perception and Cognition SRIG Session at the upcoming National Association for Music Education conference in November 2021 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center; 201 Waterfront St, National Harbor, MD 20745.
Jason M. Silveira, P & C Chair
