Dress Code


·        Black leotards (single strap, short or long sleeved). No leotards with attached skirts.

·        Pink footed tights (Apprentice through Company: Pink convertible seamed tights)

·        Pink leather ballet slippers (Shoes from department stores not recommended; these shoes are made differently than ones from dance retail stores.)

o   Creative Movement through Beginner: full sole

o   Intermediate through Company: split sole

·        Tap shoes: Beginner through Company: black, oxford

·        Jazz shoes (Intermediate through Company): black, slip-on Jazz shoes

·        Lyrical: Black leotard, black convertible tights rolled to mid-calf, bare feet

  • Hair must be in a bun and secured with bobby pins.  Short hair secured with barrettes.  All bangs neatly pinned or sprayed back.  No headbands. If you would like a “bun lesson,” please ask a member of the faculty or an experienced dance parent.
  • Performance buns: Bun should be placed on the crown of the head. Hair is to be free of unnatural colors and braids. Buns are to be wrapped with a hair net, secured with bobby pins, and whispies sprayed or gelled down.
  • No skirts or warm ups allowed during class.
  • Company dancers may wear any color leotard on Saturdays Apprentice dancers may wear a purple leotard on Saturdays; excludes Guest Artists, Festivals, Auditions, etc.
  • Pointe Shoes:  Dancers will be invited to get pointe shoes when they have exhibited the following: appropriate weight, strong enough back, legs, and feet, and execution of proper technique. Sewing and care instruction will be given at the time of the first purchase. Please do not sew pointe shoes until the Artistic Director has approved them.


  • White t-shirt tucked into tights

  • Hair neatly combed out of face

Hip hop

  • Black jazz sneakers
  • Black leggings
  • Purple t-shirt or PCBT t-shirt

  • White agility gym shoe
  • Hair in ponytail

Musical Theater Tap

  • Black oxford tap shoes (unless already own tap shoes)
  • Black jazz or yoga pants
  • PCBT or purple shirt
  • Hair in ponytail


Additional Dress Code Notes

·        All items are available through Brandywine Dance Shoppe, Dancer’s Dressing Room, and Discount Dance Supply (www.discountdance.com - Discount code: 47820)

·        All clothing and shoes MUST be marked neatly with the student’s name. Please write the names only on the inside of the shoes and clothing.

·        No fingernail polish or excessive long nails. 

  • No jewelry (except small earrings) may be worn in class.
  • No leg warmers or extra clothing of any kind may be worn in class.
  • The proper way to wear your dance clothing is without underwear.  The tights have a hygienic cotton crotch and the leotard is similar to wearing a bathing suit.
  • Holes that appear in leotards or tights should be mended immediately.
  • Students will not be permitted to dance in shoes with holes for more than one week. Shoes need to be replaced in a timely manner. 
  • Eyeglasses are not permitted for performances.
  • PCBT asks all of our students to dress appropriately when arriving and departing class and during rehearsals.  Dancewear is not appropriate attire for the street and students should wear street clothing over their leotards and/or tights. 
  • Dance shoes should never be worn outside.
