Who Can join?

We invite anybody in the Tallahassee area who is interested in Archaeology or Anthropology to join. Meetings are scheduled for the first Tuesday of every month (with the exception of July and August) in the B. Calvin Jones Center for Archaeology at the Governor Martin House. Anyone joining PAST must abide by our Code of Ethics, listed below.

Benefits of Membership

The benefits of joining include discounts on field trips, volunteer opportunities, and an open forum to communicate with other professional and amateur anthropologists and archaeologists about topics and projects in the North Central Florida area.

Regular presentations are given to members of PAST and the community by professionals in the field.

CODE OF ETHICS




1. Membership into the society shall be denied to any person who acts in a manner that is inconsistent with the organization's objectives, violates the Code of Ethics and Bylaws and/or any archaeology-related Federal or State laws, or local ordinances.



2. A member shall not engage in the illegal practice of buying, selling, or exchanging of archaeological materials for the purpose of self-gain which is declared contrary to the Constitution, Code of Ethics and/or Bylaws of the Society.



3. A member shall report to the appropriate agencies all illicit and illegal archaeology­ related activities, such as unauthorized digging, plundering, dredging, or sites that are threatened with destruction, that may come to his/her attention...



4. Members shall refrain from any unsupervised or uncontrolled archaeological excavations but will seek to aid the trained members of the Society and professional archaeologists/anthropologists.
