Non-recyclable garbage
Garbage is dumped in the two bins in the garbage shed at the back of the block. Emptied on Wednesdays per Council's web site. But they actually seem to empty the bind on Tuesdays.
Please do not leave items in the garbage shed other than in the bins.
Please do not put household appliances and large items in the bins. See "bulky waste" below for ways to dispose them.
Due to the garbage shed being used by non-residents as a toilet, for drug dealing and starting fires in the bins, the garbage shed is kept locked by a 4 digit code lock. If you are a new resident, please ask our managing agent or your landlord for the code. Always lock and scramble the code before you go out of sight of the shed.
Recyclable waste (other than food)
These should be put in the bin in the enclosure that is next to the bin shed.
What to Recycle:
What NOT to Recycle:
Recyclable food waste
Recyclable food waste is dumped in the recyclable food waste bin near the recyclable waste (other than food) bin. Emptied on Thursdays.
Islington Council had provided one kitchen caddy for each flat. If the one that should be in your flat is missing, email recycling@islington.gov.uk or phone 020 7527 2000.
You can obtain compostable starch liners for the caddies from Brickwork Community Centre at 42 Crouch Hill (opposite our block) 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday or in any Islington library. Do not use plastic bags for food waste.
Bulky waste
Household appliances and large items should not be left outside the bins or put in the bins. Use Islington's recycling centre or a private waste disposal company.
Drainage:
Please do not
Flush kitchen towels, tissues, sanitary towels, baby wipes, etc down the toilet. Please ignore claims on products such as wet wipes that say they are flushable. These items do not break down when they are flushed away. So they must be disposed off in the bin.
Pour fat, rice, tea leaves, etc through the kitchen sink
as they cause obstruction in the drains and are costly to clear. You may be inconvenienced during the time it takes to arrange to have the drains cleared.
