all sailing is postponed since the floods but we will be back as soon as possible. The Learn to Sail page on our website links to the calendar and provides details of any upcoming courses how to register for courses. The Learn to Sail classes are a lot of fun and I hope we will see you there some warm sunny morning.

September 2019: Big changes at OSC Learn to Sail

As anticipated in an email in July, we are changing to a different style of Learn to Sail, focussed on 7- to 11-year-olds. It's Australian Sailing's Tackers program, providing a more relaxed and fun introduction to sailing to the young folk. There's more info at

We have now received 8 new OziOpti boats, and are in the process of getting a new lightweight support boat. We have new AS qualified Instructors and enthusiastic young AS qualified Assistant Instructors.

So it's all go for a first Tackers 1 course on six Saturday mornings from 19 October to 23 November inclusive, from 9am to 12:30pm each day. The cost is $300 which includes the AS Tackers Pack.

Now for the downside ...

We are a small volunteer club, and we are putting a lot of effort into making the Tackers experience great. This however means we can't do our usual October/November traditional Learn to Sail course (AS Start Sailing 1&2) - we simply don't have the resources. So for those outside the 7 to 11 age range we have to say sorry - we will review how we are going in early 2020.

If you do have children in the 7 to 11 years range and would like them to take part, we will in the next week be publishing the course on our page at Australian Sailing's RevSport site: https://www.revolutionise.com.au/oxleysc/

You will then be able to see the Tackers 1 course in the UPCOMING EVENTS, and enrol and pay for a place.

In summary:

- Apologies again for those who have been patiently waiting.

- We are strongly committed to making the Tackers 1 a great introduction to sailing for the young ones, and we plan to continue with Tackers 2 and then later stages of the AS Sailing Pathway, through to Start Sailing 1&2.

- We hope your children can join us for the Oct 19 - Nov 23 course.
