Oxley Sailing Club community flood response incuding the use of club Support boats during major floods

(2015 with minor revision in 2021).

Procedure

1. Early Flood Warning - Communicate with Committee

2. Determined if our boats will be required - Confirm available crews, contact phone numbers etc

3. Notify Flood Boat Crews - establish time frame to remove boats, VHF radios and chargers, and lifejackets.

4. Move motors, fuel and support boats from lower shed as soon as flood waters reach the bottom deck.

5. Access boat trailers - possible to use Impulse trailer - suitable tow vehicles.

6. Prepare to relocate Support Boats off site.Boats should be kept within Chelmer/Graceville area (transport of Boats out of local area & then trying to return could prove difficult )

7. Pre determined access/launch locations ( most streets running east/west ) Boat trailers to be returned to higher ground

8. Monitor Oxley Creek Gauge

9. "Warning" Still Water/Backwater Operations Only - "Do Not Enter Flowing Flood Waters - River or Creek"

10. Monitor Rescue Channels

11. Notify Rescue Authorities of our Operations

12. Establish our own "Command" location, this will allow us to rotate Boat Crews etc & to be available to local residents to assist in their access to their properties

Generally the boats will be used to transport residents to & from flooded premises "after" the flood peak has receded.

Access to the Flooded Areas will generally be restricted by the Police during the actual rising flooding event.

Residents will general arrive at the end of different streets looking for help in gaining access to their properties, all efforts should be made to help them.

Our Support boats should try & work together

It is important that the boats operate at a "NO WASH" speed during all rescue work ( also there are often cars left in the streets which are unsighted in the flood water )

Do not operate Support Boats at times of High Flood Waters if Power Lines are submerged.
