An Oxfordshire Organ Book presents 15 previously unpublished pieces embracing a spread of musical styles, from an evocation of mediaeval dance through traditional idioms to jazz.
To mark the retirement of John Brennan after 35 years’ service as President, the Oxford and District Organists’ Association invited its members and others associated with him to contribute original compositions to a collection of organ music in his honour. Most pieces call for an average instrument of two manuals and pedals; there are some for manuals only and a study for pedals alone.
With a foreword by Thomas Trotter, this attractive and varied collection will appeal to players of all tastes and standards, and offers organists a new selection of pieces for use in service and recital, for teaching, and for pure enjoyment. The volume is graced by examples of the dedicatee’s elegant organ drawings and pipe-shade designs.
‘What an engaging, musical and varied collection this is! I can thoroughly recommend it’ (Gerard Brooks)
‘Hearty congratulations … on this really excellent publication. The pieces are of high quality, and offer a wonderfully varied selection of music’ (Steven Grahl)
‘It is an excellent compendium of colourful compositions in different styles, well within the capabilities of most organists, and suitable for church or concert use’ (Thomas Trotter)
