St. Camillus Health Clinic

The St. Camillus Health Clinic is a mobile doctor’s office  based in a fully outfitted, climate-controlled trailer.  Through the volunteer services of fully licensed doctors, nurses,  dentists, and  nutritionists the clinic provides expert care to the uninsured and underinsured.  All professionals are fully covered under the Good Samaritan Act of the State of Georgia.  Prospective patients call the clinic number to check for eligibility and to schedule an appointment.  No charges are made for any of the services provided.

Our Beginnings

The St. Camillus Health Clinic began as a vision held by Rev. Louis Lussier, M.I. who came to Screven County as pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church.  This vision, to provide health care for those who are uninsured, was shared with a group of 12 volunteers.  Together with Father Lou, they prayed, planned, and worked to create a free health clinic to serve those in need.   In June of 2008, in just less than 18 months after the first meeting of volunteers, the St. Camillus Health Clinic saw its first patients.

The name of the clinic refers to Camillus de Lellis, the founder of a nursing order in the late 1500s.  Camillus had a great love for the poor and the sick in whom he saw the person of Christ.

Vision for the Future

The clinic is seeking to add more doctors and nurses.  With a larger pool of doctors, the clinic will travel to more sites throughout the county, making quality health care easily accessible to all those in need.  Also, we plan to expand the range of our services to better serve the people.

“The poor and the sick are the heart of God and in serving them we serve Jesus the Christ.”    St. Camillus

Our Prayer:

O Lord, when we serve the sick, help us to see in them the image of Jesus:  give us hearts that feel, eyes that understand, words that comfort and a faith that inspires them.

When we are sick enable us to transform our suffering into healing, our fears into trust, our discouragement into prayer and to treasure each gift and moment you give us.

We ask this in Christ’s name.     AMEN

St. Camillus, pray for us.

Funding

The St. Camillus Health Clinic operates totally on funds obtained through grants and donations.  Grants from United Way and Planters Electric help to ensure that the clinic has the necessary equipment and supplies.  Contributions from many other local businesses and individuals also assist the clinic in its work.
