Concept, Vision, Mission, and Goal of a Medical School

CONCEPT, VISION, MISSION, AND GOAL OF A MEDICAL SCHOOL

Reynaldo O. Joson, MD, MHA, MHPEd

* The Board of Trustees and the Dean work through the Faculty,

who in turn work through the Students,

who in turn work through the Community Citizenry and Leaders,

to achieve the goal of Health Development and

Solution of Health Problems of the Community.

* A community is assigned to a faculty or a group of faculty as

its area of responsibility. The faculty plans, implements,

and evaluates a health development program for his assigned

community. He accomplishes his task with the aid of the

students assigned to him as well as with a community preceptor

(usually a municipal health officer).

COMPETENT PHYSICIANS

CRITERIA:

- Effective, efficient, and humane physicians

- Effective and efficient community health problem solvers

- Effective and efficient health administrators

- Effective and efficient health teachers

- Effective and efficient health learners

- Effective and efficient health researchers

* The faculty with the help of the students tries to attain the

goal of health development of a community through a PRIMARY

HEALTH CARE APPROACH, banking on PEOPLE EMPOWERMENT and

MULTISECTORAL COOPERATION.

Health development means developing a community which is

economically and socially productive.

For a community to be economically and socially productive,

majority, if not all, of the people and families living in the

community must be economically and socially productive.

For the individuals and families to be economically and

socially productive, they should be without diseases and they

should have physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being.

There will always be health problems in a community and in

the people and families living in it. There is no such thing as

zero health problems.

Solving the health problems of a community means eradicating

diseases which are preventable and minimizing and avoiding death

and disability from nonpreventable as well as preventable

diseases.
