BBC Radio Leicester - 17th January 1986 8:40pm : Interviewed by Kev Sutherland :
I remember my advisers telling me to 'have a few pints' before turning up at Radio Leicester's Epic House, which I did. I also remember this 'Kev' bloke being really interested in the computer generated voice on 'Open Up The Network' as we talked before the interview, I didn't catch on that he wanted me to tell the world about it when we went on air! I was also quite taken aback when he started talking in this weird DJ
voice as soon as he was live - so I started talking in my best 'Mr Concept' voice so's not to make him feel uncomfortable. I think it went pretty well.
John Peel plays 'Open Up The Network' :
I got a phone call from Shaun Gallagher in Brighton - 'You're on John Peel' - and I was too! I dashed out of the jaccuzzi in time to record the bit at the end and it's here for your perusal. I think John Peel only played it after multiple pesterings from 'Yeah Yeah Noh' (research them yourselves kids) who gave him the LP when they went to see him sometime. Still - Mr Concept sees this as a major highlight in his career. RIP John Peel.
KFJC Playlist from USA : We found this on the Internet - it seems they played 'Open Up The Network' in December 1997 on KFJC Radio in California... weirdos
Centre Radio - 1982
Mr Concept sent a copy of 'Ashamed To Be A Ted' to Leicester's independant radio station 'Centre Radio' who were running a song writing competition - and guess what - he became one of the finalists and got a letter from Centre Radio asking him to come in and speak to the masses. They played a song (which contains the words 'ooh yer fakker' in the backing vocals) and thought it was great. They also gave Mr Concept a guided tour and a cup of tea. Cheers 'Centre Radio' RIP.
