This course provides an Introduction to the Fundamental Concepts on Data Communication and Networks as well as the design, deployment and management of computer networks. Topics include; data communication fundamentals, principles of signalling on physical links, LAN packets, network topology, network protocols, and network applications with emphasis on both the theory and practical mode of lecturing.Â
The course is composed of two components, namely a lecture component and a lab component. Data Communication and Networks concepts are covered in the lecture component. The lab component is essentially a series of hands-on laboratory sessions designed to familiarize students with systems communication, network designs, implementations and management using simulators and administrative tools/software. Each week, equal amount of time will be allocated to the lecture and lab components.
The students are, however, expected to come prepared for the lectures by reading the chapters assigned for each week ahead of time.
