Anytime something is suspended over people it has to be built and hung in accordance with safety rules. Safety factors for cabling and hardware are 5x minimum. This means that to hang 100 lbs we need to have cables and hardware rated for a minimum of 500 lbs yield strength. The 5x safety factor is important when you consider that loads may not be static. If a load bounces (catches on a neighboring baton and then drops a short distance, the strain in the cable can be several times what it is if the load is just hanging gently.
Any hardware used must be rated and inspected.
For our purposes we will only use the American made “red” painted wire rope clips or crimp connectors.
Terminating cables weakens them. If cable strands show signs of weakening, the cable must be discarded.
