Lee's Sewing Machine Page
Welcome to my Sewing Machine Page
I have been bitten hard by the Sewing Machine Bug and decided to build this site to share information about these old machines.
I specialize in machines that can be operated by hand or foot power, even if that means stripping off a motor and popping it in a multi-use treadle.
The machines are broken down into two groups:
Designed for intermittent use on home sewing projects. The can often be cajoled into heavier sewing work but were not designed 24x7 industrial sewing conditions.
Purpose built machines designed for the industrial sewing environment to operate 24/7. The machines are quite heavy and are often designed to operate at the 3000+ Stitches Per Minute Rate. They are loosely rated for Light, Medium and Heavy sewing and usually designed for a specific sewing task. Just because it is an industrial machine does not mean it can sew heavy leather or use heavy thread.
Circa 1895 Wheeler & Wilson D-9 Domestic. Note unusual balance wheel extension which increases torque and reduces speed from domestic sewing machine motor.
Circa 1910 Singer 21W180 Industrial
1915 Singer 115 Domestic. Vertical rotary hook.
1920 Singer 95-10 Industrial. Sometimes referred to as a 3/4 size industrial, it is about 1" wider than a domestic full size.
