I wanted to let you know of some changes that we will implement in the upcoming golf season. These changes were a result of the feedback provided by our coaches through the survey, input from our Golf Advisory Committee, and the OIAAA Board Members. The OSSAA Board of Directors voted to approve the following items to go into effect for the fall of the 2024 school year. We will cover these items in more detail at the summer coaches meeting (Tuesday, July 23rd).
Regionals:
Boys will play 36 holes at regionals.
We will adjust the dates of regionals to be played one week earlier to allow for more time between Regionals and State and to have some flexibility with weather.
The OSSAA will provide a regional guidebook that specifies yardages to be played, rules, and guidelines for the regional events.
We will establish a qualifying standard (ranking) to advance to the regional tournaments. The ranking will be derived from the IWR season events played for each school.
Regional Qualifying Standard (IWR Ranking for the season)
6A = 2 regional sites - Top 24 teams/Top 12 Individuals (not on a team) qualify to attend regionals.
5A = 2 regional sites - Top 30 teams/ Top 12 Individuals (not on a team) qualify to attend regionals.
4A =3 regional sites - Top 42 teams/ Top 12 Individuals (not on a team) qualify to attend regionals.
3A & 2A = 4 regional sites (each class) - Top 52 teams/ Top 12 Individuals (not on a team) qualify to attend regionals.
Eliminating Qualifying Tournaments:
With the adoption of the regional qualifying standards, we will eliminate all qualifiers for classes 2A & 3A.
Scrimmage events:
Add three optional scrimmage events.
Scrimmages cannot have more than three teams involved.
Students cannot miss instructional time to participate.
Scrimmages must take place during the OSSAA established dates of competition.
Optional Fall Golf Season:
The fall season will run from September 1st through October 31st.
Participating schools would still adhere to the 9-event yearlong total (excluding the post-season events and the 3 scrimmage opportunities).
Schools/Players would be limited to a maximum of 3 of their 9 events for the fall season (excluding scrimmages).
The fall season would be optional and the participating schools’ data (IWR) will carry-over into the spring rankings for regional seeding purposes.
We at the OSSAA are excited to advance Oklahoma Golf through these changes. With anything that is new, we understand that there will be additional questions that come from these changes. I will send more information out this summer, and we will spend time discussing the changes at the Summer Clinic. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
Best Regards,
