Range Rules
Basic Firearms Safety Rules Must be Followed:
Treat every gun as if loaded.
Keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction
Keep your finger off the trigger outside the finger guard until ready to shoot.
All firearms must be empty with cylinders/actions open unless cased or holstered until readied on the firing line.
***The downrange warning light should be activated and the entire firing line safe before anyone proceeds down range. Firearms are not to be handled and actions are to be open while anyone is downrange and until the downrange light is turned off. Shooters should always ensure no one is downrange before preparing to shoot.
Range Hours – Sunup till Sundown
Ranges are open for general use only to chapter members and range pass holders, minor children when accompanied by the member or range pass holder and authorized guests. Guests may only attend once and thereafter must obtain a RP or membership.
Membership or range pass buttons are to be worn and readily visible
Ranges open for general use are the rifle range, the adjoining .22 rimfire range and the handgun range. All other ranges are event specific and are closed except for authorized events.
Shooters must use the appropriate range, with the exception of .22 rimfire that can be shot on the rifle range.
If any range, including a general use range is marked “Closed” it is CLOSED. Any range may be closed for authorized events, safety or other reasons.
No alcoholic beverages are permitted on the ranges or to be consumed by anyone on the ranges.
Paper targets and the fixed steel targets placed by the club only. Paper targets must be placed on the backers to prevent damage to the framework. No unauthorized steel targets are to be placed on the range. Specifically prohibited are explosive targets of any type, cans, bottles, and plastic containers.
Be considerate of other shooters’ needs to go downrange.
Un-aimed, non-controlled or indiscriminate firing is prohibited. Users must ensure that muzzle lift does not raise the impact point above the backer, that framework is not damaged and that the firing and impact point is controlled.
No armor piercing or incendiary ammunition permitted on any range.
.50 BMG and derivative rounds and full auto firearms are prohibited.
Brass, trash, etc. is to be collected and properly disposed of before leaving. Do not leave targets on backers. Misfires (dud) and any live round is to be removed from the club grounds.
Violation of range rules can lead to temporary or permanent revocation of range privileges.
Any person causing damage to Chapter property, including damage to target framework will be held liable for damages.
Any director or designated range officer is authorized to order a person or party to leave the grounds for rules violations and seek a temporary or permanent revocation of range privileges upon approval by the Board of Directors. Members or range pass holders will receive a certified letter of any such action and have the right of appeal to the directors.
Every member and range pass holder is responsible for ensuring the rules are followed. If a violation is noticed, politely bring it to the person’s attention. Egregious and dangerous violations or damages to the grounds should be reported to the directors.
