François Delalande's article in the Journal of New Music Research raises interesting questions about what is analysis and what is analysis for.

Nicholas Cook's Music, Imagination, and culture examines wider aspects of what is means to analyse music. While it is focused mostly on Western classical music the challenges and problems it highlights are highly relevant to any approach to analysis (for example the sci-fi scenario that starts the discussion in section 3.1 ).
