Welcome to North of 54 Gallery, photography by G.B. Reid.
I was born on Sept. 3, 1938 in a small prairie town by the name of Abernathy, Sask. This was 9 miles from where I grew up on a farm and went to school in a small town by the name of Balcarres, Sask. This is where I spent the first 19 years of my life and then moved north to Flin Flon, Man. In 1957, in search of a job and to make my fortune in the mines. This was going to be a short stay so I decided to buy my first camera for a whole $68.00 which was a Minolta A. This is where my love for photography began, from learning how to make an exposure, then to dark room work, a correspondence course from NYI and over 30 years as a member of PPOC, PPOM and PPOS. During my association, I was exposed to many conventions and seminars, also worked for an established photographer for 8 years doing weddings. My good wife Darlene and I operated our own business from 1974–2002, approximately 28 years. I am basically a self taught individual and over the years, I have been fortunate to pursue my love of photography. I am very grateful that I have had the opportunity to learn the wet process and have lived long enough to have been able to move into the digital world. The images that I display on this web site will range from images that I took years ago until the present day. I hope you enjoy viewing as much as I have had, making them. I feel privileged to be able to share my work with you. Thank you.
A special thanks to my wife as she has been my typist, friend, partner and support
and also a special thanks to Gordon Comeau for his technical support. Without
them my Website would not be what it is today. I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for the Comments
Many of the items that you have brought to my attention will be coming in future stories. Your thoughts and comments also give me great food for thought. I have in the neighbourhood of 20,000 images to pick from. If I feel that there is interest in certain areas, I will definitely try to find ways to use them in a manner that we all can enjoy or if anyone has any information that they wish to share with me, please contact me at gbreid81@gmail.com
