About Mrs. Ackland

Mrs. Ackland's love for speech goes back many years.  Influenced by her father, who was a high school speech and English teacher, as well as a pastor, she began attending speech contests before she could participate.  Through high school, she was involved in a variety of individual events that resulted in state competition all four years.  Her involvement in large group contests included an Outstanding Performance Award and an invitation to perform before the governor of Iowa.  She also participated in the American Legion Oratorical Contest, spoke at her graduation and baccalaureate, participated in drama, and was offered a position as a radio newscaster/disc jockey.  She then attended Crown College earning an Associate of Arts degree.  During her adult years, Mrs. Ackland has spoken for a variety of women's groups and mission conferences.  She was a speaker for the Pregnancy and Infant Loss Center and Open Doors (Brother Andrew's ministry).  In her years of home educating, she has taught and coached hundreds of students (numerous national qualifiers and for a large variety of speaking situations, including many winning significant scholarship money), and co-directed the first Minnesota National Qualifying Speech Competition in 2000. She's also coached adults for a variety of speaking opportunities.  Mrs. Ackland served on the MN Homeschool Speech and Debate Committee, including the role of chairwoman, for many years, and has served as a judge, judge trainer, and director of state competitions. In 2019, Mrs. Ackland was humbled, but honored to be the keynote speaker for the MACHE graduation.  She is excited to share her passion for this important life skill with your students!

Proverbs 15:2

“My brethren, let me say, be like Christ at all times.  Imitate Him in “public”.  Most of us live in some sort of public capacity - many of us are called to work before our fellow men every day.  We are watched; our words are caught; our lives are examined - taken to pieces.  The eagle-eyed, argus-eyed world observes everything we do, and sharp critics are upon us.  Let us live the life of Christ in public.  Let us take care that we exhibit our master, and not ourselves so that we can say, it is no longer I that lives, but Christ that lives in me.”   C.H. Spurgeon
