Global Mission

Sierra Leone Ministry

We provide support to the Nar Sarah Clinic in Kabala, Sierra Leone. Donations of money, medical supplies, clothing, bedding, birthing kits provide life saving resources for this poverty stricken region.

Over the years NKUMC has donated funds, medical supplies, clothing, school materials, birthing kits, and bedding to the clinic. In 2006 the church raised tens of thousands of dollars to enable a young girl from Kabala to travel to Israel for life saving heart surgery. We continue to support the clinic today, and you can help!

NK United Methodist Church, along with CITA International and other charities and aid organizations, supports the Nar Sarah Clinic in Kabala, Sierra Leone. Dorcas and Daniel Kamanda, NKUMC members, established this clinic after the civil war when there was no medical care.

Every day, between 40 and 50 people pass through the clinic doors, many of whom have traveled on foot for up to one week to get there. In a country where the average person lives on less than $2 a day and hospitals provide care only to those who can pay with cash, Nar Sarah is worth the walk. The clinic’s manager, Peacemaker Kargbo, and his staff work tirelessly to provide medication, testing, pre-and post-natal care, immunizations, and minor surgeries to those who can’t get treatment anywhere else.

Throughout the year, we collect various "kits" to send to the clinic as well as to UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Relief-supply kits help provide care for the most vulnerable people during times of crisis. Health kits, sewing kits, school kits, bedding kits, birthing kits and cleaning buckets are collected by generous donors across the United States. These items are then sent to one of two supply depots where volunteers assemble, verify, and pack the kits so they can be sent to where they are needed most.

Kits also help sustain everyday life for people who lack ready access to essential supplies. They provide vital support for UMCOR's global development work and make a tangible difference in people's lives.

Below you can download the supply lists for various kits. Kits can be dropped off or mailed to the church office at 450 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown, RI 02852. Even one kit can make a life-saving difference!
