What's Happening

For Week of 25 May  

• Next Sunday will be a Family Sunday, where children remain in worship.  The following Sunday, June 14th will be the last day of Sunday School until it resumes in the Fall. 

• Are you a member?  Church membership is an act of pledging your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness in a particular congregation.  The congregation also pledges to support you as you grow in your ability to follow Jesus.  NKUMC will be offering classes for those who would like to join in July.  See Pastor Tom if you are interested in joining the church. 

• South County Habitat for Humanity is hosting a fundraiser at Gooseneck Vineyards on Tower Hill Road on Wednesday, June 3rd from 6-8 p.m.  We are planning a joint United Methodist team to work on a house-build with South County Habitat this September.  Stay tuned for details about that. 

• We have been invited to march again in the North Kingstown Pride Parade on Sunday, June 7th at Noon.  The route is from Wickford Town Dock to the Middle School.  Please seek Kim Page for instructions on where and when to meet.  Make sure to wear your sunscreen! 

• There is an opportunity for members of our congregation to visit Sierra Leone from November 4-11 and see the Narsarah Clinic, Mamaland Children's Village, Salone Rising Microloans, and a new women’s health clinic currently in development.  We have been supporting these ministries for decades.  There will be an information session on Saturday, June 13th at 9:00 a.m. on Zoom.  Please tell Pastor Tom if you are interested and he can send you the link.   

• Our next Cooperative Parish Meeting will be on Saturday, June 13th from 3-5 p.m. at Cornerstone of Faith UMC in Coventry.  All are welcome! 

• NKUMC will be hosting queer Christian folk musician Bobby Jo Valentine for a concert on Saturday, June 13th at 7:00 p.m.  All are invited!  Bring a friend or two!  Suggested donation is $25.  Check out his music at bobbyjovalentine.com. 

• A Grief Support Group has formed in North Kingstown and is meeting in the Church Library on Wednesdays at 4:30.  There is no cost to participate in the group.  Contact Paul Hodosh to register at paulhodosh@gmail.com. 

• The current needs for our clothing donation program are: linens, towels, men’s clothing and shoes, and children’s spring/summer clothing.   

• Please sign up to be a Greeter.  Showing a warm, friendly face is one of the things that makes visitors feel welcome and keep coming back.  If you can smile, you have what it takes! 

• Items crafted from tie-dyed fabric made by the women of Kabala, Sierra Leone are for sale in the narthex.  All proceeds go to the women of Kabala and our mission partner, the Nar Sarah Clinic.  

• Please contribute regularly to our four ongoing collections in the narthex – food for the North Kingstown Food Pantry, supplies for the North Kingstown Animal Shelter, plastic films and bags for our recycling project, and clothing and small appliances for the Open Closet program at Open Table of Christ UMC in Providence.   

The ecumenical church community of North Kingstown provides a free Sunday dinner for our friends and neighbors throughout the year. See "Community Dinners" under Community Outreach to learn more.
