List XXXIII: Jefferson Library Round Three

ROUND THREE of what remains of the MARINE MAMMAL AND WHALING BOOKS from the private collection of marine mammal biologist Dr. Thomas A. Jefferson and transferred to the non-profit organization, VIVA Vaquita is being offered for sale at discounted pricing.  Several additional works have been added since the previous list was distributed. Dr. Jefferson is a marine mammal conservation biologist at the NMFS Southwest Fisheries Science Center in southern California   Most of the books have been donated (many by the late Dr. Edward D. Mitchell, and bearing his signature and/or stamp) with the proceeds used to raise funds for conservation work on the world's most endangered species of marine mammal, the vaquita porpoise (Phocoena sinus) of Mexico.  100% of the funds raised will be donated to VIVA Vaquita and used in work to prevent the extinction of this and other species of endangered marine mammals.  For more information on VIVA Vaquita, visit the website: http://vivavaquita.org/

List XXXI Reptiles and Amphibians

After two years, we have finally gotten around to offering a list of REPTILE AND AMPHIBIAN works for sale. This list includes recent and antiquarian material as well as newly published herpetology books.  List XXXI includes James De Kay’s 1843) Zoology of New York Reptiles, Amphibians and Fishes Volumes; Edward Cope’s (1900) Crocodiles, Lizards, and Snakes of North America; and several volumes of the U.S. Exploring Expedition Pacific Railway Surveys. Also included is the extremely rare The Thanatophidia of India by Sir Joseph Fayrer (1877) reduced to only $4800 and a copy of the locally hard to find Turtles of New England by Babcock (only the second copy I’ve seen outside my own) in superb condition.

Greetings to all our friends and customers.  Northeastern Natural History & Supply is pleased to offer our first Geology and Paleontology books catalog in over four years!  List XXIX includes over 225 works in all disciplines of geology, paleontology, and a smattering of chemistry and physics.  Titles include a first edition of Johann Zenz’s hard to find Agates book, Elijah Burritt’s Atlas Designed to Illustrate the Geography of the Heavens (1835), and Edward Hitchcock’s Report of the Geology of Massachusetts (1841) as well as the Geology of New Hampshire (1878). Also included are several volumes from the U.S. Exploration “Great Surveys” and “Pacific Railway Surveys” of the mid- to late- 18th Century.

List XXV- Botany, Paleobotany, Mycology-Lichenology-Bryology, & Marine Algae

Happy end of summer days from us at Northeastern Natural History & Supply!    Here you will find our first ever botanical catalogue of new, used and out of print books, monographs, and serials for sale. There are over 400 works divided among Botany, Paleobotany, Mycology/ Lichenology/ Bryology, Marine Algae and Plankton, and Serial Publications

Works date from the 1830s to today and include works such as the CRC Handbook of Lichenology (1988), A Report on the Trees and Shrubs Growing Naturally in the Forests of Massachusetts (1846) over a dozen botanical works by the renowned American botanist Asa Gray, and a late 1800s run of the influential horticultural journal Garden and Forest.  See the complete list HERE

We are proud to offer a fine selection of natural history prints and maps acquired over the years from various private library collections.  There is something here for everyone with prints dating back to 1780 depicting fishes, reptiles, birds, mammals, insects, mollusks, and others. Included are several dozen original Octavo edition prints of John James Audubon’s Birds of America(1840-44) and Quadrupeds of North America (1849-54).  Most are in excellent condition but pricing and condition varies from $300 to as low as $50.
